Skegness is one of the easiest stretches of the Lincolnshire coast for a dog-friendly holiday. Miles of sand, easy seafront pavements, plenty of pubs that welcome the dog under the table, and a string of even-quieter beaches a few minutes up the coast. This is a practical guide from the hosts at Sandcastle House.
Skegness Beach: where dogs are welcome
The central section between the Clock Tower and Skegness Pier has a seasonal dog ban from 1 May to 30 September. Outside those dates, the whole beach is open to dogs. In summer, walk a few minutes north toward Ingoldmells or south toward Seacroft and the sand is dog-friendly year-round. Early morning and late afternoon are kindest on paws and tummies — the sand gets hot in July and August.
The best dog walks near Skegness
- North seafront to Ingoldmells — flat, sandy, off-lead-friendly out of summer. ~3 miles return.
- Gibraltar Point Nature Reserve — dunes, saltmarsh and seal viewing. Dogs on leads, ground-nesting birds.
- Anderby Creek — 20 minutes up the coast, quieter sands and the famous Cloud Bar viewing platform.
- Chapel St Leonards beach — long, dog-friendly stretch, easy parking, a good lunchtime stop with a pub at the top of the dunes.
- Skegness town circuit — Roseberry Avenue → Tower Gardens → seafront → home, around 45 minutes at a sniff-pace.
Dog-friendly pubs & cafés
The Vine Hotel is the classic dog-friendly choice in Skegness — historic, garden, dogs welcome in the bar. Most seafront pubs allow dogs in the bar areas, especially out of high summer. Several cafés along Lumley Road and the seafront keep water bowls at the door; ask and almost any of them will refill for you.
Tips for a smooth dog holiday in Skegness
- Rinse paws after sandy walks — east-coast sand is salty and gets between toes.
- Carry water on the beach in summer; there's very little shade once you're on the sand.
- Check tide times before long walks toward Gibraltar Point — the tide comes in fast over flat sand.
- Keep dogs on leads near the donkeys on the central seafront in summer.
- Bring a towel for the car. You will need a towel for the car.
