It's under three hours from most of the Midlands and the North, it's got a proper beach and a proper high street, and you can pack a lot into three nights without ever needing the car. When to come
Peak (July-August, school holidays): book months ahead, expect crowds and full-price accommodation. Best for families with school-age children.
Shoulder (April-June, September-October): our favourite. Warm-enough weather, everything open, cheaper stays. May half-term, June and early September are the sweet spots.

How long to stay
- 2 nights (Friday-Sunday). Fine for a couple's weekend if you skip the beach on arrival day. Tight with kids.
- 3 nights (Friday-Monday or Monday-Thursday). The classic short break. Long enough to unpack, do the beach twice and take in the pier.
- 4 nights. Our recommended length. Adds one proper day trip — Gibraltar Point, Lincoln or the Wolds.
- 7 nights. A full family holiday. Fits everything without a rush.
A perfect 3-night weekend in Skegness
Friday: arrive late afternoon, unpack, chippy tea on the seafront, walk to the pier for the lights coming on.
Saturday: proper breakfast at the house, morning on the beach, lunch at a seafront pub, afternoon at Natureland or Fantasy Island, curry night in.
Sunday: Sunday lunch out, walk south to Gibraltar Point for seals and sky, tea and cake back at the house, pack for the drive home Monday morning.

- Family weekend. 2-3 bedrooms, walking distance to the beach and pier, self-catering to keep costs down.
- Multi-generational. 4-bedroom houses with two bathrooms and a garden — grandparents, kids and dogs, together, without treading on each other.
